Incentives to Join

Incentives to Join To conclude our blog, here are some incentives to join the NGO.  You will be able to directly impact kids and their education. As we said before, kids are the next generation of lawmakers and government officials who will have the heavy responsibility of changing millions of people’s personal lives. Educating them correctly and them having an open heart and mind is essential if we want to make change.  You will also be able to learn about your own gender and sexual identity. Throughout the development of this NGO, we had the opportunity to reflect on who exactly we were. As mentioned in the survey results, half of the recipients had never thought about gender or sexual identity. Identity is who you are. It is what makes you special and unique. Being self aware of who you are not only makes your life better but also other peoples’ lives better. Even if you think you know who you are and what your identity is, it’s never a bad thing to re-reflect.  Finally, yo

Specifics about the NGO

Specific Details About our NGO Specifically promote to kids       As mentioned in the survey results, there’s a generational gap between our generation and our parents’ and I think we are more open to new ideas. The kids are the next generation of the government and educating them is essential to making change.  Utilize social media       The now is the internet and we need to promote ourselves through social media or else we will fall off quickly. Promotion, relation building and monetization through websites such as youtube, tiktok, twitter and instagram will grow our NGO. It will also relate to kids and the younger generation who are more keen on social issues as I mentioned. Focus on education There are many LGBT NGOs in Japan but hardly any focus on educating compulsory education kids. The fact of the matter is the majority of LGBT people start to develop their understanding of their sexual orientations at ages 10-14. That’s elementary to jr high school. The youth are the next

Report of Surveys

Report of Surveys   We did two surveys on two different websites. Here are the results. 1.        I did a survey where I asked people their thoughts and insights into Gender Issues. I only managed to get 21 responses, but the answers were pretty interesting.      I mostly got answers from people from Japan, but I also managed to get a few non-Japanese people to participate.      I then asked what their gender was. most were female which was 12, then male which was 6, then others which were 3 (Non-Binary, Non-Binary Woman and agender).      I then asked whether they were interested in the topic of Gender Issues. I was glad to see that the majority said yes (86%), while only 3 people said no (14%). pretty much the same result when I asked whether they've heard gender issues being discussed on the news.      When I asked how often they heard about gender identity-related news stories in media, the result was pretty interesting. quite surprised to see that most people hear about it onc

"Don't Say Gay" bill

"Don't Say Gay" Bill The "Don't Say Gay" bill is what prompted our wanting to start this NGO. Researching about this bill has made us more aware of the urgency even though this bill is in the USA.  What is "Don't Say Gay" bill? Parental Rights in Education bill states that lessons about sexual orientation are banned outright in kindergarten through third grade. It also prohibits lessons in other grades unless they are "age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate." The people who oppose this bill claim that it's very vague and a judge will have the ability to deny any kind of teaching whether that be just a mention of the teacher's same-sex spouse or a reading of a novel with homosexual characters in it.  When and who was it signed by? The law was signed March 28, 2022 by Florida republican  Governor  Ron DeSantis. What does the White House say? “This is not an issue of ‘parents’ rights.’ This is discrimination, plain and s

Perspectives

Perspectives  To understand both sides of controversial discussions, we decided to think for ourselves the perspectives people with differing opinions have.  *These are not direct quotes, this is a role playing exercise.

Goals of our NGO

Goals of our NGO Bro ad goal: To create an unbiased non-judgemental environment for kids to grow up and be educated in. Semi- broad goals: 1. Implement gender neutral restrooms and locker rooms in public facilities.      Implantation of unisex   restrooms/locker rooms would increase the safety and comfort of transgender people and intersex/non-binary people. It would also raise awareness for the normalization of gender fluidity. 2. Reform "家庭総合" textbook      Currently, the textbook supported by th e ministry of education completely disregards non-binary genders and homosexuality claiming "It is important that a man and a woman cooperate to create a familial lifestyle". 3. Support trans kids in sports      Controversy surrounding transgender people participating in sports competitions have been long debated. I believe that trans kids should have the opportunity to enjoy competitive sports nevertheless. Funding sports events that allow transgender kids participat

LGBT Movements in Japan

LGBT Movements in Japan Understanding the history behind LGBT movements in Japan will help us figure out what is important for the present and the future. 1. The end of the 19th century  Japanese society was extremely tolerant of love between men, and homosexual behavior by samurai, priests, and others was viewed as normal. 2. Late Meiji-era Westernization of the country resulted in heterosexuality being seen as a sickness.  3. 1990: Fuchū Youth House incident "Occur", an association for gay and lesbian movements, was denied use of a public facility in a youth house .  The Tokyo Metropolitan Government justified its decision to support the youth house based on its policy of single-sex rooms, arguing that the possibility of gay and lesbian people having sexual intercourse within the rooms would create an unwholesome environment for young people.   4. 1996 The Saitama Medical school acknowledged  the existence of transsexualism and allowed for sex reassignment surgery . 5. 2003

What is... ?

What is...?  Many people tend to claim they understand a lot about LGBT. However, truth be told, a claim is all it is. While the topic of LGBT is heavily discussed in the media, a lot of people are still unaware of certain phrases or words, or even the issues regarding LGBT.  So, let's start with some basics: 1. What is LGBT? LGBT is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. Since its first usage in the 1990s, this term is used as an umbrella term for sexuality and gender identity. 2. What is transgenderism? Transgender  is a general term that describes people whose gender identity does not match the  sex  they were assigned at birth. 3. What is non-binary? Non-binary is an umbrella term for gender identities that are not male or female‍. Non-binary identities fall under the transgender umbrella, since non-binary people typically identify with a gender that is different from their assigned sex, though some non-binary individuals do not consider themselv

LGBT Representation in Japanese Media

Image
LGBT Representation in Japanese Media Media reflects society and we think that it's important to spread movies, tv shows and books that portray LGBT in a meaningful way. The more it's portrayed in the media, the more people will be aware of the normality of it.    Movies 1. Rage (2016) A man brutally murders a married couple and leaves the word rage ("Ikari") written with their blood. The killer undergoes plastic surgery and flees. At three different locations in Japan, a stranger appears. People suspect that the stranger might be the murderer.  2. Fly Me To Saitama (2019) People from Saitama Prefecture are persecuted and, because of this, they hide the fact that they are from there. In Tokyo, Momomi Hakuhodo is a male high school student and the son of the Tokyo governor. One day, he meets mysterious male transfer student Rei Asami from Saitama Prefecture. Others include: The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Piece (2020), Kalanchoe (2017), French Dressing (1998) TV shows 1.

It's also about learning your own gender identity. It's important to do so because gender is a big part of who you are and self-awareness will lead to a better life for both you and the people around you.  What is sexual identity education and why is it important?       Sexual identity education is understanding that heterosexuality isn't the norm and learning to be unbiased and non-judgemental towards non-hetero people. Also, like gender identity education, it's also about finding out your own sexual orientation because self-awareness will lead to a better life for both you and the people around you.    Why are you focusing on 義務教育 (c
